The project “Mastering the english knit” explores the act of learning through the craft of knitting, focusing on mastering the English knit technique. It shifts the emphasis from producing functional objects to understanding and perfecting a skill through methodical practice and reflection.
The outcome of the project is presented in two parts: a publication and a collection of exhibited knit samples. The publication documents the eight-step journey of learning, with detailed records of each step, including time, tension, consistency, and reflections on the process. The knit samples, displayed alongside the publication, showcase the progression from the initial attempts to the final refined pieces, offering a tangible representation of the learning process.
By combining theoretical documentation with physical outcomes, the project highlights the significance of time, repetition, and self-reflection in mastering a craft. It positions knitting as both a meditative practice and a metaphor for the broader process of learning, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own approaches to acquiring new skills.
