JACKS’ FANTASY - Mapping the reality of co-working

“Jacks’ Fantasy” is a reflection of how the pandemic impacted the co-working space of Videolab in Eindhoven. Once a vibrant community, it has been reduced to a deserted space, formerly used by Philips to produce and develop video equipment.
Looking into how communities of entrepreneurs work together and support each other, a contact with the community manager “Jack” was established. Through interviews and trying to experience this community it was shown at some point that there was no community occupying the space anymore, the only thing still alive was the light, and “Jacks’” fantasy.
The map tries to tell the story of the two opposing, but still co-existant, sides; the reality of the space and “Jacks’” idea of it. They merge in the experience of the space, where one can imagine what life in here could look like while comparing it with what is alive in here.
Using artistic research as an approach, the map hopes to inspire curiosity in the buildings that were left empty for the time of the pandemic, that there are still things to explore and experience even though they have been vacated.
