Red, the wireless speaker, is a combination of furniture and soundsystem that aims to put the way we listen to music in a new context. Bringing back the romanticized idea of the sitting listener outside of a concert hall, one can share a musical experience with someone in a setting where the company complements the experience. The object seats two participants comfortably if they choose to engage with one another, ones’ back becomes anothers’ backrest.
Red tries to showcase an active/passive way of engaging with music and sound, one is meant to passively sit while actively engaging with the fellow listener and the sound. The co-dependancy gives one the idea that the two participants rely on each other in sharing the experience. Music becomes the medium allowing the participants to fully engage with Red and each other.
The object is made from a birch plywood frame fitted with felt applications and matching steel accessories. It comes with two seats sown from canvas saddlegirth mounted on steelframes. The constellation is easy to change, allowing it to be placed in several different environments morphing into whatever suits the listeners and the surrounding. Hidden inside is an amplifier fitted with a bluetooth reciever allowing one to easily connect to the soundsystem.
