How dependant are we on industrial production and how far away from it can we stray? “Re-Eingineering” attempts to replicate an industrially made product based on accessible materials and not relying on heavy machinery. By creating criterias based on the performance of the original product, the carpet knife, the design aims to perform as well as the original tool.
Through iterations and testing several different materials are explored in order to see how they perform based on the experience of the original product. For the experiments to be successful, standardised testing models are set up in order to efficiently compare the iterations to the original product.
Going through the process, the design moves closer and closer to be sufficient in terms of living up to the standard set by the industrially made product, and reveals that one is not bound to buying, but can efficiently create tools that works just as well as the one that was store bought. Comparing cost of material and time consumed creating  the final iteration tries to show how one has a choice in terms of consumption.
De-mystifying the industrys’ capacity, we are introduced to the idea that we can provide for ourselves without dependancy. The invisible system hiding behind industrial production becomes evident and a process of merging the producer and user has begun.
