CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT - Fostering creativity in education

Workshop, collaboration
Eindhoven, Netherlands
January 2024
The project explores how fostering curiosity can empower students to develop a deeper sense of self and take an active role in their learning. In response to a brief on promoting creativity in education, it investigates the question: How can creating space for curiosity enable students to develop a deeper sense of self?
Through a series of workshops, students engaged in curiosity-driven activities designed to surprise and captivate them. The sessions balanced reflection, intuition, and decision-making, encouraging them to identify opportunities for improving their classroom environment. These explorations resulted in the creation of a collection of custom-designed furniture and pillows for their chairs, showcasing the students' creativity and their sense of ownership over the outcome. The physical results are tangible reminders of the potential of curiosity-driven learning and collaboration.
In parallel, the project produced a guidebook for teachers, offering practical tools to integrate creativity into their lessons. The workshops directly informed the guidebook, while the guidebook provided a framework for the workshop activities.
This project demonstrates how design can go beyond theory to create meaningful physical outcomes, empowering students to shape their surroundings while uncovering their passions and actively engaging in their education. The custom pillows and furniture serve as lasting evidence of this creative journey.
